Lightsage launches 'Agent Experience' platform to optimize software for AI agents
Formerly Sapient, the company is building infrastructure to help developer-focused software be discovered and utilized by autonomous AI agents.
As autonomous AI agents evolve from simple chatbots into entities capable of planning and executing complex tasks, they are emerging as a critical new distribution channel for software. This shift is prompting a move toward "Agent-Led Growth" (ALG), where software is optimized for machine-to-machine interaction rather than traditional human-centric user interfaces.
Lightsage, formerly known as Sapient, has launched an "Agent Experience" (AX) platform designed to help software companies—specifically those targeting developers—ensure their products are compatible with AI coding agents. The platform focuses on making software more discoverable and usable for autonomous tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. According to the company, success in this new ecosystem is measured through specific metrics, including Agent Discoverability, Agent Usability, Tool Calls, and Error Rates.
The shift to machine-centric growth
For decades, software growth has relied on optimizing the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) to attract human customers. However, as AI agents begin to handle the discovery, recommendation, and implementation of software tools, the traditional UI becomes a bottleneck. AI agents do not navigate menus or read marketing pages in the same way humans do; they require structured accessibility and efficient tool-calling capabilities to function effectively.
Why agent optimization matters
If AI agents become the primary gateway through which software is discovered and utilized, companies that fail to optimize for the agent experience risk becoming invisible to a significant portion of their potential market. By positioning itself as the infrastructure layer for this transition, Lightsage is attempting to create a standard for how software communicates with AI, mirroring the critical role that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) played during the early expansion of the web.
The road to Agent-Led Growth
What remains to be seen is how widely the industry will adopt the "Agent-Led Growth" framework and whether standardized AX metrics will become a benchmark for software procurement. As more developer tools integrate with autonomous agents, the ability to minimize error rates and maximize tool-call efficiency will likely determine which platforms survive the transition to an agent-first economy.
