A new class of specialized cloud providers known as "neoclouds" is rapidly emerging to solve the critical shortage of high-performance AI infrastructure. These providers are positioning themselves as essential intermediaries in the AI supply chain, offering the massive compute power required to train and deploy frontier models.
The scale of this shift is underscored by a $10 billion agreement between frontier AI company Anthropic and the AI cloud startup Volta (Volta Infra Holdings). Under the terms of the deal, Volta will provide specialized compute capacity to Anthropic over a six-year period. Unlike general-purpose hyperscalers such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), neoclouds focus exclusively on optimized GPU availability, flexible pricing, and performance tailored specifically for AI and machine learning workloads.
