OpenAI Cuts GPT-5.6 Luna Costs by 80% to Scale Enterprise AI

OpenAI has announced aggressive price reductions for its GPT-5.6 Luna and Terra models alongside a high-speed processing option for GPT-5.6 Sol. The move aims to lower the barrier for enterprises deploying high-volume AI agents and large-scale data analysis.
The most significant change is the 80% price cut for GPT-5.6 Luna, which now costs $0.20 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens. GPT-5.6 Terra has also seen a 20% reduction, with pricing now set at $2 per million input tokens and $12 per million output tokens. For users requiring maximum velocity, the GPT-5.6 Sol model now offers a "Fast mode" that delivers speeds up to 2.5x faster than standard processing, though it comes at twice the cost.
A Tiered Strategy for Intelligence
These updates are part of a broader transition toward a tiered model family consisting of Sol, Terra, and Luna. By offering different levels of intelligence, OpenAI allows businesses to match the specific capability of a model to the required outcome. This internal optimization reduced serving costs by 20% and boosted token-generation efficiency by more than 15%.
