OpenLogi has launched as a local-first, open-source alternative to Logitech Options+, allowing users to manage high-end peripherals without cloud accounts or telemetry. The software provides a native way to customize Logitech devices across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Written in Rust and dual-licensed under MIT and Apache-2.0, OpenLogi enables users to remap buttons, adjust DPI presets, and manage SmartShift settings. It supports a wide range of hardware, including the MX Master 4, 3S, and 3, as well as the MX Anywhere 3, Signature M650, and Ergo M575. The tool operates via HID++ across multiple connection methods, including Logi Bolt, Unifying, Lightspeed, Bluetooth, and USB. Rather than relying on a proprietary cloud database, all user settings are stored in a local, human-editable TOML configuration file.
The battle against bloatware
This release addresses long-standing criticisms of Logitech's official Options+ software. Many power users describe the official suite as bloated, noting that it is built on Electron and requires a mandatory account and telemetry to function.
Because many MX-series mice lack on-board memory to store customizations, they require a background daemon to translate button presses into actions. For Linux users, this has been a particular pain point; Logitech does not provide official configuration software for the platform, leaving a significant gap in the ecosystem for those using professional-grade hardware on open-source operating systems.
Restoring hardware agency
By removing the "cloud wall," OpenLogi restores direct user agency over hardware. The shift to a native language like Rust ensures high performance and a smaller footprint compared to resource-heavy official alternatives. For privacy-conscious individuals, the elimination of telemetry means that peripheral usage data is no longer transmitted to corporate servers.
Beyond privacy, the inclusion of Linux as a first-class platform means a broader range of users can now access per-app profiles and advanced button remapping that were previously locked behind Windows or macOS installations.

As the project grows, the community will likely seek expanded device support beyond the current MX and Signature lines.
