South Korean Startup Perseus Scales SDV Infrastructure with ASIL-D Hypervisor

The developer of the Pegasus hypervisor has secured 30 billion won in total funding as it prepares for an IPO.

South Korean automotive software developer Perseus is accelerating the transition to Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs) with its specialized hypervisor technology. The company is positioning itself as a critical infrastructure provider for the next generation of centralized vehicle computing.

At the center of the company's offering is Pegasus, a Type-1 bare-metal vehicle hypervisor. The software allows multiple operating systems and diverse vehicle functions to execute independently on a single semiconductor chip. This capability is underpinned by a rigorous safety profile; Pegasus is the only vehicle hypervisor in Korea to obtain ISO 26262 ASIL-D certification—the highest safety grade available—for both CPU and MCU architectures.

The Shift to Centralized Computing

The automotive industry is moving away from fragmented architectures toward SDVs, where hardware is consolidated into centralized computing platforms. Historically, vehicles relied on dozens of separate electronic control units (ECUs) to manage individual tasks. However, as vehicles become more software-centric, the industry requires a way to run critical safety functions and non-critical infotainment systems on the same hardware without the risk of interference.

Hypervisors like Pegasus provide the necessary isolation to ensure that a failure in one software partition does not compromise the stability of another. According to Perseus CEO Seo Sang-beom, technology that can safely operate multiple functions on a single computing platform will become increasingly vital as automotive functionality shifts toward a software-centric model.

Market Traction and Financial Growth

This technical milestone has translated into significant financial backing. Perseus recently closed a 16 billion won Series B funding round, bringing its cumulative investment to over 30 billion won. The capital injection supports the company's scaling efforts as it moves toward the public market. To facilitate this transition, Perseus has selected Daishin Securities to serve as the lead underwriter for its upcoming initial public offering (IPO).

Industry Implications

The ability to consolidate hardware while maintaining ASIL-D safety standards has direct implications for vehicle manufacturing. By reducing the number of physical chips and wiring harnesses required, manufacturers can lower overall vehicle weight and reduce production complexity. This efficiency is essential for the mass adoption of autonomous and connected vehicle features, where computing demands are rising but hardware space and power consumption remain constrained.

Future Outlook

As Perseus moves toward its IPO, the company is focused on expanding the footprint of the Pegasus hypervisor within the global automotive supply chain. While the current focus remains on the vehicle sector, the underlying architecture of the Pegasus hypervisor—which prioritizes strict isolation and high-level safety certification—could potentially be adapted for other high-stakes environments, such as robotics or aerospace, where hardware consolidation and safety are equally paramount.
