YC F25 Startup Autonomous Recruits Engineers for AI Wealth Manager
The agentic wealth strategist is expanding its technical team to automate high-touch financial services.
Autonomous, an AI-driven wealth strategist developed by the Autonomous Technologies Group (ATG), is actively recruiting for several engineering and research positions. The company, which is part of the Y Combinator Winter 2025 (F25) cohort, is scaling its team to build a regulated, full-stack AI wealth manager.
The company is seeking Research Scientists and Members of Technical Staff across multiple disciplines, including Backend, Full Stack, iOS, and Data Platform engineering. These roles will support the development of a platform designed to manage complex financial lives, encompassing investments, taxes, and estate planning. According to the company, the product is built as "science-backed financial intelligence" intended to understand markets and individual user needs while communicating insights dynamically.
The Shift to Agentic Finance
This hiring push comes as the financial services industry sees a growing trend in the integration of Large Language Model (LLM) reasoning systems. While many existing fintech tools focus on passive portfolio tracking, Autonomous is pursuing an "agentic" approach. This means the AI is designed to proactively manage financial strategies, such as identifying tax-loss harvesting opportunities, managing concentrated stock positions—including pre-IPO stakes—and coordinating directly with professional attorneys and accountants.
To support this operational model, the company has established a formal regulatory foundation. Autonomous Wealth Management LLC is an SEC-registered investment advisor acting as a fiduciary, ensuring that the AI's strategic recommendations meet legal standards for client care. Additionally, the company has partnered with Apex, a broker-dealer and SIPC member, to hold managed assets.
Industry Implications
By combining frontier reasoning systems with a regulated fiduciary status, Autonomous is attempting to automate the high-touch, bespoke services typically reserved for ultra-high-net-worth individuals. If successful, this model could disrupt the traditional private wealth management industry by lowering the barrier to entry for sophisticated financial planning and reducing the reliance on human-led advisory firms for complex estate and tax coordination.
What's Next
As Autonomous expands its team in New York City and San Francisco, the industry will be watching how the platform handles the transition from theoretical reasoning to real-world fiduciary execution. The company's ability to scale its data platform and iOS interface will be critical as it moves from the Y Combinator accelerator phase toward a broader market rollout of its agentic strategist.
