AI Infrastructure Firm Nscale Seeks $3.5 Billion in Pre-IPO Funding
The neocloud provider is scaling rapidly following a $45 billion compute agreement with Anthropic.
AI infrastructure provider Nscale is seeking $3.5 billion in pre-IPO financing to fuel its rapid expansion. The funding round includes approximately $2 billion from Nvidia and $1.5 billion in convertible notes led by Third Point.
The capital drive follows a landmark $45 billion, six-year compute agreement signed with AI developer Anthropic on August 26, 2026. Under the terms of the deal, Anthropic has reserved 460 MW of compute capacity at Nscale's Monarch Compute Campus in Mason County, West Virginia. This agreement has pushed Nscale's total contracted revenue book to approximately $103 billion.
The Rise of the Neocloud
Founded in 2024 by Joshua Payne and Nathan Townsend, Nscale operates as a "neocloud" provider. The company vertically integrates energy, data center management, and GPU compute to meet the extreme hardware demands of large language model (LLM) developers. This strategy has allowed the company to scale at an unprecedented pace; in March 2026, Nscale reached a valuation of $14.6 billion after raising $2 billion in funding.
Strategic Infrastructure Shifts
The scale of the Anthropic partnership signals a broader shift in the AI industry. Rather than purchasing compute on a transactional basis, major AI labs are now reserving massive amounts of future infrastructure years in advance to prevent compute bottlenecks. To support this long-term capacity, the Anthropic deal will utilize Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin systems starting in late 2027.
Market Implications
Nscale's ascent from a startup to a company with a $100 billion-plus contract book highlights the immense capital intensity of the AI "physical layer." As the industry moves beyond software optimization and into the realm of massive energy and hardware procurement, the ability to secure power and GPU clusters has become a primary competitive advantage. The involvement of Nvidia as both a hardware supplier and a pre-IPO investor further tightens the link between chip production and infrastructure deployment.
Path to Public Markets
With its contract book expanding and strategic partnerships in place, Nscale is preparing for a potential listing on the New York Stock Exchange. While some reports suggest the company could go public as early as September 2026, a specific date has not been confirmed. Investors will be watching closely to see how Nscale converts its massive projected contracted revenue into realized earnings as the Vera Rubin systems come online.
