Google pivots to 'agentic' AI with Pixel 11 lineup and new Pixel Tag

Google unveiled its 2026 hardware roadmap on August 12, centering the new Pixel 11 smartphone series around a fundamental shift toward "agentic" AI. The event marked a transition from the smartphone as a passive tool to an active assistant capable of executing multi-step tasks on behalf of the user.
The new lineup consists of the standard Pixel 11 priced at $899, the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099, the Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold at $1,899. Alongside the phones, Google introduced the Pixel Tag, a tracking device priced at $29 individually or $99 for a four-pack, which integrates with Android's Find Hub network. Hardware refinements include a redesigned camera bar on the base Pixel 11 that is over 40% thinner, while the Pro models feature improved anti-scratch coatings and drop resistance. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is nearly 10% lighter and almost 1mm thinner than its predecessor, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, and is described as three times more durable.
The Shift to Agentic AI
This hardware cycle is defined by the Tensor G6 chip, which provides 50% more TPU power than previous iterations. This increase in processing capability allows Gemini AI to move beyond simple queries into agentic behavior. Google claims the devices can now perform autonomous actions such as ordering groceries or booking rides. To support these on-device Gemini Nano processes, Google has raised the baseline RAM to 12GB across the series.
Additional Pro-exclusive features include a "HiLight" rear LED on the Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL, which changes color to signal notifications or Gemini callups. However, these advancements come with a higher entry price. Google attributed the price increases to global RAM supply shortages and the decision to remove 128GB storage options, meaning all devices now start at 256GB.
