According to the research, AI chatbots boosted accuracy in detecting misinformation and evaluating news by 21 points during active use. However, this performance gain was temporary. The study observed that independent cognitive skills—specifically the ability to discern misinformation without assistance—eroded over a four-week period as participants relied on the AI for information synthesis.
