Berry Street and Healthify Merge to Scale Metabolic Care Amid GLP-1 Surge
The merger blends India's AI-driven nutritional coaching with U.S. clinical infrastructure to target the growing weight-loss drug market.
U.S. nutrition startup Berry Street has merged with India-based Healthify to create a cross-continental metabolic health platform. The move aims to capitalize on the accelerating global demand for GLP-1 weight-loss medications.
The new entity will operate under a co-CEO structure led by Noah Kotlove of Berry Street and Tushar Vashisht of Healthify. To maintain regional market presence, the company will continue using the Berry Street brand within the United States while utilizing the Healthify brand in other markets, including India.
The Scale of the Merger
The deal combines two companies with significant footprints in the health tech space. Healthify enters the merger having raised more than $150 million in funding and claiming a user base of over 45 million customers. Berry Street brings a robust U.S. clinical backbone, including a network of over 2,000 clinics. Last year, Berry Street secured $50 million in funding from FJ Labs, Sofina, and Northzone, and reports serving more than 200,000 people through strategic partnerships with Walmart and Amazon.
Market Context
This consolidation occurs as the healthcare industry pivots toward integrated metabolic care. The rise of GLP-1 medications has created a need for comprehensive support systems that combine pharmaceutical treatment with nutritional guidance. According to a report from JP Morgan, approximately 25 million Americans are estimated to be on GLP-1 treatment by 2030.
By integrating Healthify’s AI-powered coaching with Berry Street’s insurance-covered clinical care, the merged company is positioning itself to manage the long-term nutritional needs of patients on these medications. This reflects a broader industry trend where metabolic health startups are blending AI efficiency with physical clinical networks to provide a full-stack patient experience.
Why It Matters
The merger is a strategic attempt to dominate the nutrition and weight-loss sector by scaling AI capabilities through established U.S. infrastructure. Tushar Vashisht, CEO of Healthify, stated that while Healthify's mission was to put a dietitian in every pocket, Berry Street provides the "clinical backbone and the coverage infrastructure" necessary to scale that promise in the U.S. market.
Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, noted that pairing AI with a nationwide network of expert clinicians allows the entity to redefine metabolic care by providing universal access to both daily nutrition guidance and professional dietitian advice.
What's Next
Industry observers will be watching how the company integrates Healthify's AI tools into Berry Street's existing clinic network and whether the co-CEO model can effectively manage the divergent regulatory environments of the U.S. and Indian healthcare markets. The company's ability to secure further insurance coverage for its integrated AI-clinical model will likely determine its success in capturing the projected GLP-1 patient population.
