Hugging Face has expanded its footprint from AI software into physical hardware with the launch of the Microduck robot. The move signals a strategic shift for the company as it attempts to bring accessible, consumer-facing AI robotics to a broader market.

Launched through Pollen Robotics, a French startup acquired by Hugging Face, the Microduck is an open-source bipedal robot priced at $399. While some early reports conflated its sales with previous products, the device has seen immediate commercial traction, generating $2.6 million in revenue within its first 24 hours on the market. The robot is powered by the RK3566 chip, manufactured by the Chinese company Rockchip.

The Shift to Physical AI

For years, Hugging Face has operated primarily as the central repository for the world's open-source AI models and datasets. By acquiring Pollen Robotics, the company is now bridging the gap between large language models and the physical world.
