Federal regulators have deepened their investigation into General Motors after reports of systemic failures in the company's eBoost brake-by-wire system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is now scrutinizing the reliability of the electronic braking interface across multiple vehicle models.

The probe has been escalated to a formal Engineering Analysis, a critical step that often precedes a mandatory recall. According to NHTSA documents, the investigation now covers approximately 1.16 million vehicles. The agency is responding to 745 reported incidents, with the failures linked to at least 22 crashes or fires.

The Shift to Electronic Braking
