Samsung Launches My FanCam AI for Post-Recording Video Reframing

The new Galaxy AI feature allows users to transform wide-angle footage into tight tracking shots after filming is complete.

Samsung has launched My FanCam, a Galaxy AI-powered video editing tool that enables users to reframe wide-angle recordings around a specific person after the video has been captured. The feature identifies subjects within a clip and generates a tighter tracking shot based on a user-selected aspect ratio.

Available as part of One UI 9, the tool is currently deployed on the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. Operating within the Galaxy AI Editor and Gallery app, the feature allows users to select a specific subject and choose a desired output format, such as a vertical aspect ratio optimized for social media platforms. Unlike traditional recording modes, My FanCam functions as a post-recording utility, meaning it reframes existing footage rather than adjusting the composition in real-time during the filming process.

A Shift in AI Video Processing

My FanCam represents a strategic departure from Samsung's existing "Auto framing" technology. While Auto framing adjusts the camera's field of view dynamically while the user is recording, My FanCam moves the intelligence to the editing phase. This approach allows the user to capture a comprehensive wide scene first, ensuring no action is missed, and then decide on the specific focus and framing during post-production. However, because the tool relies on existing pixels, the final tracking shot is limited by the boundaries of the original wide-angle recording.

Impact on Content Creation

This capability simplifies the creation of "fancams" and highlight reels, particularly in group settings such as sports events or school plays. By removing the requirement for precise manual tracking during a live event, Samsung is lowering the technical barrier for users to create professional-looking subject-tracking videos. The ability to easily convert wide shots into portrait-oriented clips also streamlines the workflow for creators targeting platforms like TikTok or Instagram Reels, where vertical framing is the standard.

Future Outlook

As Samsung continues to integrate Galaxy AI deeper into its mobile ecosystem, the rollout of One UI 9 marks a broader trend toward generative and corrective AI tools in mobile photography. While the feature is currently highlighted on the latest Z series foldable lineup, it remains to be seen if Samsung will expand My FanCam to the S-series flagship devices or older hardware via software updates. For now, the tool serves as a key differentiator for the Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, emphasizing the intersection of foldable hardware and AI-driven software.
