Official product pages for the One RFID and Granary 2 feeders claim that scheduled meals will continue to be dispensed even during network errors. CEO York Wu reinforced this, stating that scheduled feedings are programmed directly onto the device and should run without an internet command.

However, the real-world experience of users contradicted these claims. Numerous owners reported that their devices ceased to operate entirely during the server crisis, resulting in pets going unfed. For owners who travel or work long hours, these devices are not mere conveniences but critical care tools, making the failure of the local redundancy a significant safety concern.

The IoT Single Point of Failure

The Petlibro incident highlights a systemic risk in the Internet of Things (IoT) industry: the "single point of failure." When critical hardware depends on a centralized cloud infrastructure for its basic logic, a server crash can render the physical device useless, regardless of how the product is marketed. This creates a trust gap between the "offline functionality" promised in brochures and the technical reality of cloud-dependent firmware.
