nVent Electric plc is scaling its production capabilities to meet rising demand for data center thermal management. The company has leased a new 160,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Blaine, Minnesota, dedicated specifically to liquid cooling technology.
This site marks nVent's third capacity expansion for its liquid cooling division within three years. These combined efforts have added more than 400,000 square feet of new manufacturing space to the company's footprint. The Blaine facility is scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2027 and is expected to create more than 200 new jobs. To date, nVent has deployed more than two gigawatts of liquid cooling capacity globally.
The Shift to Liquid Cooling
The expansion comes as the data center industry faces a critical thermal inflection point. Traditional air cooling systems are increasingly unable to manage the extreme heat generated by high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. Modern AI hardware requires high-density infrastructure that can move heat away from processors more efficiently than air.
Liquid cooling provides a more effective medium for heat transfer, allowing operators to maintain hardware performance while improving overall energy efficiency. As AI models grow in complexity and power consumption, the transition from air to liquid is becoming a requirement rather than an option for hyperscalers and enterprise data centers.
