Bitmine Nears 5% Ethereum Supply Target After 58-Week Buying Streak
Chairman Tom Lee's firm now holds 5.81 million ETH, transforming its treasury into a massive yield-generating engine.
Bitmine has increased its Ethereum holdings to 5.81 million ETH, bringing the firm within striking distance of its goal to control 5% of the network's total supply. The accumulation marks a significant shift in corporate treasury strategy for the firm led by Chairman Tom Lee.
In its most recent move, Bitmine acquired 13,000 ETH from BitGo in a transaction valued at $24.36 million. This purchase is the latest entry in a disciplined 58-week buying streak, as the company aggressively scales its position. According to current data, Bitmine's holdings now represent approximately 4.8% of the total Ethereum supply. To fund this expansion, the company has utilized its liquid assets, with cash and marketable securities reserves now sitting at approximately $104 million.
From Mining to Treasury
Bitmine's current position is the result of a fundamental pivot in its business model. Originally operating as a Bitcoin mining entity, the company evolved into a specialized Ethereum treasury firm under Lee's leadership. By implementing a systematic accumulation strategy over the past year, Bitmine has moved away from the volatility of mining operations toward a model of strategic asset ownership. This transition allows the firm to act as a corporate custodian of one of the world's largest smart-contract platforms.
The Shift to Infrastructure
The scale of Bitmine's holdings grants the firm substantial market influence and potential governance weight within the Ethereum ecosystem. However, the company is not merely speculating on price appreciation. Bitmine has shifted toward becoming a yield-generating infrastructure player by staking the vast majority of its assets. Currently, 5,067,309 ETH—roughly 87% of the firm's total holdings—is staked. This strategy allows Bitmine to generate consistent annualized revenues from the network, effectively turning a static treasury into a productive financial engine.
Market Outlook
As Bitmine closes in on its 5% ownership target, the market will be watching for how the firm utilizes its growing influence. While the company has focused on accumulation and staking, Chairman Tom Lee continues to view Bitmine's common shares as undervalued. The primary remaining question is whether the firm will maintain its buying streak once the 5% threshold is reached or if it will pivot toward other network-level investments.
