Grayscale Bullish on Zcash as AI Surveillance Drives Privacy Demand
Grayscale Research argues Zcash is undervalued and positioned to capture Bitcoin's market share through advanced financial privacy.
Grayscale's Head of Research, Zach Pandl, suggests that Zcash ($ZEC) remains undervalued despite a significant recent rally. The investment firm argues that the privacy-focused asset is uniquely positioned to capture a larger share of Bitcoin's market dominance as artificial intelligence increases the risk of financial surveillance.
According to Grayscale, Zcash is the Bitcoin competitor with the best shot at capturing market share over time. This outlook is supported by the recent transition of Grayscale's Zcash Trust into a spot Zcash ETF, trading under the ticker ZCSH on NYSE Arca as of August 25, 2026. Grayscale Research further posits that if Zcash were to capture 10% of Bitcoin's market capitalization, its price could hypothetically reach approximately $8,100.
The Privacy Edge
Zcash shares several fundamental similarities with Bitcoin, including a fixed supply of 21 million coins and a proof-of-work security model. However, it distinguishes itself through the use of zero-knowledge proofs, which enable "shielded transfers" that hide transaction details from public view.
Grayscale views these privacy features as increasingly critical. As AI tools make it easier to deanonymize public blockchain addresses, the ability to maintain financial confidentiality becomes a primary value proposition. "Zcash offers financial privacy and other attributes that users may find essential in an age of AI," Pandl stated, adding that the asset can continue to capture market share.
Institutional Implications
This analysis signals a shift in how institutional investors perceive privacy coins. Once viewed as niche or high-risk assets, privacy-centric tokens are increasingly seen as essential hedges against the growing capabilities of AI-driven surveillance.
The migration of the ZCSH ETF to a major exchange like NYSE Arca significantly lowers the barrier for institutional capital. By providing a regulated vehicle for exposure, Grayscale is facilitating a transition from retail-led speculation to institutional adoption based on the utility of financial privacy.
Future Outlook
Investors are now watching whether Zcash can translate its technical advantages into sustained market cap growth. While the potential for a price surge to $8,100 remains a hypothetical scenario based on Bitcoin's dominance, the launch of the ETF provides the infrastructure for such a move.
What remains to be seen is how regulatory bodies will react to the increased institutionalization of privacy coins. As Zcash attempts to scale its market share, the tension between financial privacy and regulatory compliance will likely remain a central theme for the asset's trajectory.
