Solana Memecoin ZCAT Distributes $2.8 Million in Zcash Rewards
The Anonymous Cat token used a 3% transfer tax and a Zcash price surge to payout holders.
The Solana-based memecoin Anonymous Cat (ZCAT) has distributed approximately 2,320 Zcash (ZEC) tokens to its community, a payout valued at roughly $2.8 million. The distribution comes as Zcash experiences a massive price rally, highlighting a unique intersection between speculative memecoin mechanics and privacy-focused digital assets.
According to CoinDesk, the rewards were spread across more than 470,000 individual payouts. The mechanism driving these distributions is a 3% transfer tax applied to ZCAT transactions; these funds are converted into ZEC and distributed to wallets holding a minimum of $20 in ZCAT. The scale of the payout was significantly amplified by Zcash's recent market performance, with the token's price surpassing $1,200. As of Monday morning in Asia, ZCAT held a market value of approximately $124 million, trading at around 13 cents.
The Privacy Pivot
This surge in ZCAT activity coincides with a broader market trend favoring cat-themed tokens and a renewed institutional interest in privacy coins. Zcash, which allows users to obfuscate transaction details, has seen its profile rise following the listing of a spot Zcash ETF (ZCSH) by Grayscale on the NYSE Arca on August 25, 2026.
Furthermore, ZCAT utilizes StonkFun, a Solana launchpad that enables trading pairs beyond the standard SOL or stablecoin combinations, allowing the token to trade directly against ZEC. This infrastructure has facilitated the tight link between the memecoin's internal economy and the price action of the privacy asset.
Speculative Risks
While the $2.8 million payout is a windfall for holders, the mechanism underscores the inherent volatility of memecoin reward structures. Because these payouts are funded entirely by a transfer tax on trading volume rather than sustainable business revenue, the rewards are inextricably linked to market hype. If liquidity dries up or trading activity declines, the funding for ZEC rewards could collapse rapidly.
Market Outlook
Investors are now watching whether ZCAT can maintain its $124 million valuation as the initial excitement of the Zcash payouts fades. While the Grayscale ETF provides a fundamental tailwind for ZEC, the long-term viability of ZCAT depends on its ability to attract consistent trading volume to sustain its tax-based reward system. It remains to be seen if other Solana projects will adopt similar cross-asset reward mechanisms to attract liquidity.
