Strategy Inc. Builds $3.75 Billion Cash Reserve Through Equity Sales

The company maintains its massive Bitcoin stack while shifting toward a more balanced liquidity framework.

Strategy Inc. has significantly increased its U.S. dollar reserves through a series of equity transactions, signaling a strategic shift in how the company manages its balance sheet. During the week of July 20–26, 2026, the firm raised substantial capital while keeping its core cryptocurrency holdings intact.

According to company data, Strategy Inc. sold approximately 5.43 million Class A common shares, generating net proceeds of $544.5 million. Simultaneously, the company repurchased 288,930 shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) for $25 million. Despite market speculation regarding potential asset liquidations, the company did not sell any Bitcoin during this period. Its holdings remained steady at 843,775 BTC, with an average acquisition cost of approximately $75,476 per coin. These maneuvers pushed the company's total USD reserve to $3.75 billion as of July 26, 2026.

A Shift in Capital Strategy

This activity follows the late June 2026 adoption of the "Digital Credit Capital Framework." This new approach marks a departure from the company's previous era of pure Bitcoin accumulation, moving instead toward a model that prioritizes active capital management and liquidity. As part of this framework, Strategy Inc. authorized a BTC Monetization Program, which allows the firm to sell up to $1.25 billion of its Bitcoin holdings to build reserves if such a move is deemed more advantageous than issuing new equity.

Reducing Balance Sheet Risk

The move to diversify capital tools is an attempt to reduce the risks associated with a highly leveraged balance sheet. By utilizing at-the-market equity sales to build cash buffers and repurchasing preferred stock at discounts, Strategy Inc. aims to ensure it can meet its financial obligations without being forced to sell Bitcoin during market downturns. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor emphasized the necessity of this transition, stating that "Digital Credit requires liquidity, discipline, and active capital management."

Market Implications and Outlook

While the growth of the cash reserve provides a safety net, the continued issuance of common shares has sparked concerns among some investors regarding shareholder dilution. The industry is now watching to see if Strategy Inc. will actually trigger its BTC Monetization Program or continue to rely on equity markets to fund its liquidity needs. The primary focus for analysts remains whether this balanced approach can successfully protect the company's massive BTC position while satisfying the demands of its equity holders.
