YeePay Partners With ClearBank to Scale UK and European Operations

The Chinese payment giant is securing EMI licenses and safeguarding infrastructure to streamline cross-border flows between Asia and Europe.

Chinese payment technology firm YeePay has entered a strategic partnership with ClearBank to accelerate its expansion into the UK and European markets. The collaboration provides YeePay with the critical banking infrastructure and regulatory support needed to establish a compliant footprint in the region.

Under the terms of the agreement, ClearBank will serve as YeePay's safeguarding bank provider. Beyond infrastructure, ClearBank is supporting YeePay's applications for Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licenses from the De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) in the Netherlands and the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). YeePay has already obtained an EMI license from the FCA for its UK subsidiary, YeePay UK.

Strategic Global Pivot

This European push is part of a broader global expansion by the China-based digital payments and cross-border transaction provider. YeePay has focused on building regional hubs to bridge disparate markets, including the establishment of a regional headquarters and technology hub in Abu Dhabi in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO). Additionally, the company has partnered with Veem to enhance payment capabilities specifically between Asia and North America.

Implications for Cross-Border Trade

The move reflects a wider trend of Asian FinTechs seeking regulated entry into Europe to provide local, compliant banking infrastructure for their clients. By securing EMI licenses, YeePay can issue local virtual IBANs and access payment schemes indirectly. For merchants moving funds between Asia and Europe, this reduces operational complexity and minimizes the friction typically associated with non-local payment processing.

Yu Chen, co-founder of YeePay, stated that ClearBank’s infrastructure and alignment on regulatory processes would be "vital to unlocking" the company's expansion into these markets. Mark Fairless, Group CEO of ClearBank, noted that the partnership demonstrates how the bank combines scalable infrastructure with regulatory expertise to support international growth.

Future Outlook

Industry observers will now watch for the approval of YeePay's license application with the De Nederlandsche Bank, which would further solidify its presence in the Eurozone. As YeePay integrates ClearBank's safeguarding services, the company is positioned to scale its regulated offerings for corporate clients navigating the regulatory requirements of both the UK and the EU. This infrastructure allows YeePay to bridge the gap between Asian financial ecosystems and European regulatory standards, providing a seamless conduit for corporate treasury and trade settlement.
