BYD Launches 'Biggest-Ever' UK Sales Event to Scale Market Share

The Chinese automaker is offering discounts of up to £2,500 and introducing the Dolphin G DM-i to accelerate growth.

BYD has launched its "biggest-ever" sales event in the United Kingdom, deploying aggressive pricing to capture a larger slice of the electrified vehicle market. The campaign, which runs from September 10 to September 21, 2026, targets both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

According to Electrek, the promotion offers savings of up to £2,500 across BYD's range of electric and plug-in hybrid models. The event coincides with the UK debut of the Dolphin G DM-i; the base Active trim for this new model starts at £23,990. Financing options for the Dolphin G DM-i Active include lease terms starting from £250 per month with a 1.9% APR.

Expanding the UK Footprint

This push comes as BYD rapidly scales its presence in the British market. The company reached a significant milestone in August 2026, hitting 100,000 total UK registrations since its initial launch in March 2023. Growth has been particularly steep recently, with 37,995 of those registrations occurring in the first half of 2026 alone.

To sustain this momentum, BYD is diversifying its portfolio beyond passenger cars. The company is expanding its UK offerings to include the Shark pickup and the Ti 7 seven-seat SUV, while also preparing to introduce Denza, its luxury sub-brand, to the region.

Strategic Market Positioning

By undercutting competitors on price and financing, BYD is positioning itself as a primary alternative to established European and American automotive brands. This strategy is designed to scale market share rapidly during a period of transition for the UK car industry, where the shift toward electrified powertrains is accelerating but still faces regulatory hurdles.

The focus on both BEVs and PHEVs allows BYD to capture two different segments of the market: those ready for full electrification and those seeking a hybrid bridge. By lowering the barrier to entry through significant discounts and competitive monthly payments, the company aims to build critical mass before the end of the year.

Future Outlook

Industry observers will be watching to see if these aggressive discounts trigger a price war among other EV manufacturers in the UK. While the current sales event is a short-term sprint, the broader goal is a long-term shift in market dominance. It remains to be seen how the introduction of the luxury Denza brand will affect BYD's brand perception as it moves from budget-friendly options to the high-end segment.
