Genesis Debuts GV90 Flagship EV SUV With Ultra-Luxury Coach Doors
The new flagship electric SUV targets the ultra-luxury segment with 657 hp and a bespoke 'Neolun Arch Gate' variant.
Genesis has officially entered the ultra-luxury electric vehicle market with the unveiling of the GV90, its first full-size flagship electric SUV. Debuting at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, the vehicle signals a strategic shift for the brand as it moves into the "halo" territory of high-end automotive design.
The GV90 is available in two distinct configurations: a standard version with traditional doors and a high-luxury "Neolun Arch Gate" variant. This premium version features coach doors that utilize a dual-motion hinge mechanism to open and close independently, hiding the B-pillar for a seamless entry experience. Under the hood, the SUV is powered by a dual-motor AWD system delivering 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Energy is supplied by a 123.5 kWh battery, which provides an estimated range of 310 to 311 miles for the seven-seat configuration. To minimize downtime, the vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes when using a 350 kW DC fast charger.
Engineering a New Benchmark
The GV90 is the production realization of the Neolun concept first shown nearly two and a half years ago. It is built on a new eMP platform developed specifically for Genesis flagship models. The vehicle's scale is substantial, measuring 208.1 inches in length, 79.9 inches in width, and 71.5 inches in height, supported by a 127.8-inch wheelbase.
Technical firsts define the GV90's engineering. It is the first vehicle from the Hyundai Motor Group to feature a Dual E-LSD mounted on both the front and rear motors. Safety is also prioritized with a world-first Roof Airbag designed to deploy automatically during a rollover to protect the entire roof glass area. Inside, the brand emphasizes a "bespoke living space," offering a four-seat "Executive Suite" and swiveling front seats to enhance passenger comfort.
Challenging the Luxury Establishment
By implementing complex engineering like B-pillarless coach doors and rotating seats in a production model, Genesis is directly challenging established luxury marques such as Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Maybach, and the Cadillac Escalade IQ. This move tests whether a non-legacy luxury brand can successfully command six-figure pricing in the competitive EV SUV market. "The GV90 opens a new chapter for Genesis, offering the very best that the brand has to offer," stated José Muñoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company.
The Road Ahead
As Genesis positions itself against the world's most exclusive brands, the industry will be watching to see if the GV90's blend of high-tech specifications and bespoke luxury can attract the ultra-wealthy buyer. While the technical specifications are now public, the market will soon determine if the brand's leap into the halo segment can disrupt the dominance of traditional luxury leaders. This strategic gamble represents more than just a new model; it is a bid for legitimacy in a segment where heritage usually dictates success.
