Kia Launches GT Performance Variants for EV3, EV4, and EV5

Kia has expanded its high-performance electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of GT versions of the EV3, EV4, and EV5. The move signals a strategic push to bring the brand's performance branding to a wider array of vehicle segments, ranging from compact hatchbacks to SUVs.

Now available in Europe, the new lineup consists of two SUVs and a performance-oriented hatchback/fastback. All three models are equipped with dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setups and a standardized 81.4 kWh battery. The EV4 GT, available in both hatchback and fastback body styles, is the quickest of the trio, accelerating from 0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds. The EV3 GT follows closely with a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds, delivering 288 hp (215 kW). The EV5 GT provides the highest power output at 301 hp (225 kW) and 354 lb-ft of torque, reaching 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds.

A Systematic Performance Strategy

This expansion follows a pattern of systematic growth for Kia's performance electrics. The company first introduced the EV6 GT in 2022, followed by the launch of the three-row EV9 GT in late 2024. By applying the GT badge to the EV3, EV4, and EV5, Kia is moving beyond its flagship models to cover multiple market segments.

According to Pablo Martinez Masip, vice president of product, marketing and customer experience at Kia Europe, the company is opening the “GT experience to new segments and making electric performance accessible to a broader range of customers.”

Democratizing Electric Speed

This strategy represents an attempt to democratize electric performance by offering high-output variants of more affordable models. By lowering the barrier to entry for the GT experience, Kia is positioning itself to compete more directly with other performance-oriented EVs, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the Alpine A290.

While the lineup is a major push for the European market, availability varies by region. The EV3 GT is available in the United States with a starting price of $45,890 and an EPA-estimated range of 280 miles. However, Kia has indicated that the EV4 GT and EV5 GT will not be launched in the U.S. market.

Market Outlook

Industry observers will be watching how these mid-tier performance models impact Kia's market share in the increasingly crowded EV space. While the core technical specifications are now confirmed, the long-term success of the strategy depends on whether consumers are willing to pay a premium for GT performance in smaller, more accessible vehicle classes. For now, the EV3 GT remains the sole representative of this new performance wave for North American buyers.
