ProLogium Launches Mass Production of Certified All-Solid-State Batteries
The Taiwanese manufacturer has begun producing Gen 3.5 cells with a validated energy density of 381 Wh/kg.
Taiwanese battery manufacturer ProLogium has commenced mass production of its Generation 3.5 Lithium Ceramic Battery (LCB) at its facility in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The move signals a critical transition for all-solid-state technology, moving from laboratory prototypes to commercial-scale manufacturing.
The company's new 185.4 Ah large-format cells achieve a gravimetric energy density of 381 Wh/kg and a volumetric density of 903 Wh/L, figures validated by TÜV Rheinland. To verify the "all-solid-state" nature of the cells, UL Solutions utilized China's GB/T 43568-2026 vacuum test. The cells recorded a mass loss of less than 0.05%, significantly beating the 0.5% threshold required for certification.
The Solid-State Race
Solid-state batteries are widely viewed as the "holy grail" of electric vehicle (EV) technology. By replacing the liquid electrolytes found in traditional lithium-ion batteries with a ceramic-based architecture, these cells offer the potential for higher energy density, faster charging speeds, and enhanced safety. While numerous firms have claimed breakthroughs in the sector, ProLogium is among the first to move into mass production with third-party certification of its solid-state status.
To support this transition, ProLogium has established strategic partnerships with major automakers, including Mercedes-Benz, which invested a high double-digit million euro amount into the company.
Scaling the Technology
Despite the technical milestone, current production scale remains modest. The initial annual capacity at the Taiwan facility is 0.5 GWh, which is roughly equivalent to 6,000 EV battery packs of 80 kWh each. This volume is tiny compared to the requirements of mainstream EV production, meaning the company's primary challenge is now scaling to Giga-level volumes while reducing costs to compete with established LFP and NMC chemistries.
Future Expansion
ProLogium is looking toward Europe to solve its scaling issues. The company has planned a second production facility in Dunkirk, France, which is expected to come online in 2028. This site is projected to start with an initial output of 4 GWh, with a long-term maximum capacity target of 44 GWh.
Industry observers will now watch to see if the company can maintain its energy density benchmarks while ramping up production to a scale that can meaningfully impact the global automotive market.
