Tesla plans 124-stall V4 Supercharger hub in San Francisco
The proposed site at Alemany and Bayshore marks a shift toward high-capacity urban charging centers.
Tesla is planning to construct one of its largest urban charging hubs in San Francisco, filing permits for a 124-stall V4 Supercharger station. The project represents a significant expansion of the company's charging footprint within the city limits.
According to planning permits, the station will be located on the south side of the city at the corner of Alemany and Bayshore, adjacent to US-101. The site, which currently serves as a yellow-cab storage lot, will be transformed into a high-density charging center featuring 124 V4 charging posts. To support this capacity, the installation will require 16 Tesla power units and 28 parking-lot lights. The plans also include a 400-square-foot "micro-amenity" building, which will house a vending vestibule featuring Cotti-branded coffee and two gender-neutral ADA restrooms.
A Shift in Urban Strategy
Historically, Tesla has reserved sites with more than 100 stalls for interstate highway stops, where land is more abundant and cheaper. Urban stations have typically remained much smaller due to the scarcity of available real estate in dense city centers. By deploying a site of this scale in San Francisco, Tesla is pivoting toward a "charging hub" model designed to serve a different demographic than the long-distance traveler.
Addressing the Charging Gap
This move is a strategic response to the unique infrastructure challenges of the Bay Area. A high concentration of EV owners in San Francisco live in apartments or condominiums without access to private home charging. By creating a high-capacity urban center, Tesla is providing a reliable alternative for city dwellers who rely entirely on public infrastructure to keep their vehicles powered.
The V4 Advantage
Beyond the scale of the site, the use of V4 hardware is a critical component of the rollout. The V4 platform supports 500 kW charging cabinets, a capacity that Tesla began deploying in full stations in 2025. This hardware ensures that the station can handle future vehicle demands for faster charging speeds, reducing wait times as the volume of EVs on the road increases.
