Tesla reveals European Semi specs with 550 km range and 800 kW charging
The electric heavy-duty truck arrives in Europe with lower range and charging power than its US counterpart.
Tesla has unveiled the specifications for the European version of its Semi electric truck, signaling a formal entry into the continent's competitive heavy-duty transport market. The company revealed the details via a post on X, ahead of a scheduled formal launch at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, taking place September 15-20, 2026.
According to data reported by Electrek, the European Semi is rated for a range of up to 550 km (342 miles) when operating at a gross combination weight of 40 tonnes. The vehicle features a curb weight of 9,100 kg and an energy consumption rate of 1 kWh/km. To support operational needs, Tesla has equipped the truck with an electric Power Take-Off (ePTO) capable of providing up to 25 kW of power. Charging is handled via a maximum power capacity of 800 kW, which Tesla states can recover approximately 60% of the vehicle's range within 30 minutes.
Market Divergence
These specifications mark a notable departure from the Tesla Semi currently in production in the United States. The US Long Range variant boasts a significantly higher range of 500 miles (805 km) and a charging capability of 1.2 MW. While Elon Musk previously discussed the possibility of producing the Semi at Giga Berlin, the truck is currently manufactured at a high-volume facility adjacent to Gigafactory Nevada.
Competitive Landscape
Tesla enters a European market that is far more saturated with electric heavy-duty options than the North American landscape. The company faces immediate competition from established legacy manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz—with its eActros 600—as well as Volvo, MAN, Scania, DAF, and Renault. These incumbents possess deep-rooted logistics networks and existing service infrastructures across the EU.
