Ukraine Codifies MUL.E All-Wheel Drive Electric Combat Motorcycle

The Ministry of Defence authorizes a stealthy, mine-resistant electric platform designed for high-intensity frontline logistics.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has officially codified and authorized the MUL.E, the nation's first all-wheel-drive electric military motorcycle, for operational use. This specialized vehicle is designed to enhance mobility and survivability for personnel operating in high-intensity warfare environments.

Developed by a Ukrainian military products company, the MUL.E utilizes a 2x2 all-wheel-drive system powered by two independent electric motors. According to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, this configuration provides superior traction and survivability in difficult terrain. A critical design feature is the use of wide off-road tires, which allow the vehicle to exert ground pressure similar to that of a soldier on foot. This engineering choice reduces the likelihood of triggering pressure-activated anti-tank mines during transit.

The Shift to Electric Mobility

Ukraine has increasingly integrated electric two-wheelers into its defense strategy to leverage low acoustic and thermal signatures, which are essential for stealth in contested zones. This strategic pivot is reflected in recent procurement trends. In 2026, the Defence Procurement Agency DOT significantly scaled its operations, signing contracts for 1,500 motorcycles—a threefold increase over the previous year's procurement volume. This surge highlights the military's urgent need to improve frontline mobility in areas where traditional logistics are hindered by geography or enemy activity.

Battlefield Implications

The MUL.E represents a transition from the simple electrification of existing vehicle types toward the creation of platforms designed specifically for modern battlefield constraints. By combining all-wheel drive with a low-pressure footprint, Ukraine is attempting to solve the persistent challenge of moving supplies and personnel through muddy, mined, and contested terrain without the high visibility associated with larger armored vehicles.

Beyond transport, the vehicle serves as a mobile power hub. It features a removable petrol generator that allows operators to recharge batteries in the field. This generator also provides critical power to external equipment, including communication devices and FPV drones, extending the operational endurance of small units.

Operational Outlook

While the vehicle offers a range of approximately 100 km (62 miles) on a full charge, its success will depend on the integration of the petrol generator system in active combat zones. Observers will be watching how the 2x2 drive system performs across the diverse and often degraded landscapes of the frontline. As the Defence Procurement Agency continues to scale its fleet, the MUL.E may set a new standard for the role of lightweight, stealthy electric platforms in asymmetric warfare.
