According to Counterpoint Research, smart eyewear is poised for a significant breakthrough, projected to account for nearly one-fifth of all consumer wearables revenue by 2032. Data reported by 36Kr, synthesizing Counterpoint findings, suggests that cumulative revenue for these "three musketeers" over the 2026-2032 period could reach $168 billion for glasses, $44 billion for rings, and $24 billion for pendants.

The Shift to Value-Driven Growth

This expansion marks a fundamental transition for the industry, moving from a volume-driven phase to a value-driven one. The market is currently seeing a revenue compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12%, significantly outpacing the 6% growth in unit shipments. This disparity indicates that consumers and manufacturers are prioritizing higher-value, more sophisticated devices over cheap, mass-market hardware.

Much of this value is driven by the integration of on-device AI and a strategic pivot toward preventive healthcare. Anshika Jain, a principal analyst at Counterpoint Research, notes that use cases are evolving beyond simple fitness tracking. Instead, the industry is moving toward systems where the device can flag potential health problems before the user even notices them, turning wearables into proactive medical monitors.

The Push for Invisible AI

The rise of rings, pendants, and glasses signals a broader industry desire for "invisible" AI integration. By moving the primary interface away from the wrist, manufacturers are enabling continuous, non-intrusive sensing and interaction. This allows AI to operate in the background of a user's life without the friction of a screen or the bulk of a traditional smartwatch.

However, the path to seamless integration faces technical hurdles. The hardware requirements for running AI locally on such small devices are immense. Mohit Agrawal, research director at Counterpoint Research, emphasizes that in the wearables sector, on-device AI is a thermal and battery problem before it is a software problem. Managing heat dissipation and power consumption in a ring or a pair of glasses remains the primary barrier to full-scale adoption.

As the market moves toward 2032, the success of these categories will depend on whether manufacturers can solve the power-to-performance ratio. The industry is now watching to see if the projected revenue for smart eyewear can materialize as these devices move from niche gadgets to mainstream productivity and health tools.
