RayNeo Splits AR Strategy With Minimalist iO and Immersive GT Glasses

RayNeo has announced a dual-pronged expansion of its augmented reality portfolio with the introduction of the iO Smart Glasses and the GT series. The move signals a strategic pivot toward two opposite user needs: discrete, AI-driven daily assistance and high-fidelity immersive media.

Scheduled for retail launch on September 4, 2026, the two lines offer vastly different hardware profiles. The iO Smart Glasses are designed for all-day wear, weighing just 33 grams and utilizing a monochrome green MicroLED display. These frames prioritize input and utility, featuring a quad-microphone array and a VPU bone conduction sensor for voice isolation, though they lack integrated speakers. On the software side, the iO provides real-time text translation across 40 languages and is reported to last up to 48 hours with typical use, or 96 hours on standby.

In contrast, the GT and GT Max series are built for what RayNeo calls "cinema-grade spatial viewing." These devices focus on visual scale and audio immersion, featuring a quad-speaker setup co-tuned by Bang & Olufsen. The standard RayNeo GT projects a virtual screen of up to 231 inches with a 46-degree field of view, while the GT Max expands this to a 307-inch screen with a 59-degree field of view. To maintain the stability of these massive displays, the GT series employs a dual-chip architecture, including a Zone 360 3DoF chip that enables spatial tracking through Pinned, Follow, and Steady modes.

The AR Market Divide

This product split acknowledges a fundamental technical ceiling in current AR development: the inability to fit a high-FOV cinema experience into a lightweight, "normal" looking frame. By diversifying, RayNeo is betting that the market is splitting into two distinct categories: AI wearables and XR displays. AI wearables, like the iO, prioritize subtlety, voice, and text to reduce smartphone dependency. XR displays, like the GT series, prioritize visual immersion for gaming and media consumption.

Industry Implications

By partnering with audio specialists like Bang & Olufsen, RayNeo is attempting to solve the audio barriers that often plague AR hardware. This strategy places the company in direct competition with high-end spatial displays from Xreal and the AI-integrated frames being developed by Meta. The success of this approach will depend on whether consumers prefer a single "do-it-all" device or are willing to own separate glasses for productivity and entertainment.

Both product lines will be showcased at IFA, where the industry will look for more details on the software ecosystem supporting the iO's translation features. While the hardware specifications for the GT series are clear, the long-term viability of the 3DoF spatial tracking in varied lighting environments remains a key point for testers to verify upon the September launch.
