Google is bringing its Gemini-powered AI transcription capabilities into the physical world by expanding the 'Take Notes for me' feature to support in-person meetings. This update allows users to leverage Google Meet not just for virtual calls, but as a tool to capture and summarize face-to-face discussions.

Originally designed for online calls, the tool now enables users to start a meeting session on a mobile device to transcribe and summarize physical conversations. The rollout began on Android and has since expanded to the web, with support for iOS scheduled to arrive by the end of August 2026. The feature was announced during the Google Cloud Next 2026 conference on April 22, 2026.

The Hybrid Workflow

This expansion is part of a broader strategy to integrate Gemini AI across the Google Workspace suite to automate productivity. By moving 'Take Notes for me' beyond the virtual realm, Google is targeting the hybrid work experience, where physical and digital interactions frequently overlap. The tool functions by generating a detailed Google Doc that includes a summary of the conversation, key decisions made, and a list of action items. These documents can be saved directly to Google Drive or sent via email.
