According to an analysis by How-To Geek, the Pixel series is losing its grip on power users due to the limitations of Google's Tensor chips. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is consistently cited as dominating in raw power, Google's Tensor G5 lags significantly behind competitors from Qualcomm and MediaTek. Beyond raw speed, the hardware struggle extends to connectivity; Pixel devices utilize Samsung Exynos-derived modems, which have been widely reported to cause random Wi-Fi and cellular issues, frequent call dropouts, and accelerated battery drain.

The Shift to AI

For nearly a decade, the Pixel was positioned as the premier experience for users seeking a streamlined version of Android paired with industry-leading camera processing. However, Google has recently transitioned its product strategy to center on Gemini, its generative AI suite. This pivot has transformed the user experience, moving AI from a helpful addition to the focal point of the device.

Ismar Hrnjicevic, a senior author at How-To Geek, argues that this change is counterproductive for the brand's most loyal supporters. "By turning experimental Gemini features into the focal point of the Pixel experience instead of keeping them as helpful additions, Google is alienating fans of clean Android who helped build the brand in the first place," Hrnjicevic stated.

This strategic misalignment threatens Google's ability to capture a meaningful share of the premium smartphone market. While Samsung remains a dominant leader in the U.S., Google risks relegating the Pixel to a niche showcase for AI capabilities rather than a competitive consumer device. The perception of stagnation is further compounded by recent hardware releases; reviewers from outlets including Gizmodo and CNET have described the Pixel 10a, launched in March 2026, as being nearly identical to the previous Pixel 9a in terms of core specifications and design.
