According to a 2024 analysis by Recurrent Auto, out-of-warranty battery replacements typically cost between $5,000 and $16,000.
By recognizing that a slight decrease in mileage is a standard characteristic of the technology, owners can avoid unnecessary expenditures. Furthermore, distinguishing these signs allows drivers to better leverage manufacturer warranties, ensuring they seek professional replacement only when a verified failure occurs before the warranty period expires.
What to Watch For
Moving forward, owners should monitor for "cliff-edge" drops in performance rather than a slow slope. While the industry continues to refine battery chemistry to extend these lifespans, the current benchmark remains a decade or more of reliable service for the vast majority of vehicles.
