Samsung Galaxy Buds On Leak Reveals AI-Powered Clip-On Design

Samsung is preparing to enter the open-ear audio market with a new wearable called the Galaxy Buds On. The upcoming device marks a significant shift in the company's hardware strategy, moving away from traditional in-ear isolation toward an awareness-based listening experience.
According to leaks from 9to5Google and SammyGuru, the Galaxy Buds On (codenamed 'Able') feature a distinct clip-on form factor. The design consists of two rounded bulbs connected by a silicone loop, where a larger bulb rests in the ear's concha while a flat end clips to the outer ear. The device has already cleared India's BIS certification under the model number SM-U600.
AI and Sensor Integration
The earbuds are designed to function as productivity tools rather than simple audio peripherals. Integration with Gemini and Bixby AI assistants is supported via touch gestures or voice commands. One of the most notable additions is a voice memo recording feature that automatically converts speech to text. According to strings found in the Buds Manager app, users can configure touch-and-hold controls to trigger the voice recorder and use Bixby to search those memos without removing their phone from their pocket.
Beyond AI, the Buds On introduce several sensor-driven capabilities. The hardware supports head nod and shake gestures for hands-free interaction. For audio management, Samsung is introducing 'Auto Volume,' which dynamically adjusts levels based on environmental noise, alongside a 'Volume Boost' mode for higher output. Additionally, a 'Pause media while you’re asleep' feature is mentioned, though this specific functionality will require One UI 9.0 to operate.
A Pivot in Audio Strategy
This move signals Samsung's intent to compete with existing open-ear offerings like the Bose Ultra Open and Huawei FreeClip. While Samsung previously experimented with non-traditional shapes via the Galaxy Buds Live, the clip-on design of the Buds On represents a total departure from that 'bean' aesthetic. By targeting users who dislike the feeling of in-ear buds, Samsung is positioning these as a lifestyle and productivity hybrid.
