Amazon has announced the first physical media releases for the first two seasons of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.' The move brings the high-budget series to home discs for the first time, providing a permanent alternative to its streaming-only availability.

Standard DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD editions for both seasons are scheduled to launch on November 3. For collectors, Amazon is offering exclusive 4K steelbooks, which are slated to ship on December 1. Pricing for the releases is tiered by format: standard DVDs are priced at $39.99, Blu-rays at $46.99, and 4K discs at $51.99, while the Amazon-exclusive steelbooks will retail for $61.99.

Behind the Scenes of Middle-earth

The physical sets include a variety of bonus materials for fans of the production. The Season 1 release features a trailer gallery, "Stores of the Second Age," and a comprehensive look at the production titled "The Making of The Rings of Power (Episodes 1-8)."

The Season 2 collection continues this trend with its own trailer gallery and a feature titled "Inside Episodes 1-8," alongside a recap of the first season to bring viewers up to speed before diving into the second installment.

A Shift from Streaming Exclusive

Since its debut in 2022, 'The Rings of Power' has existed exclusively as a Prime Video streaming title. By transitioning to physical media, Amazon is catering to a specific segment of the fanbase—collectors and enthusiasts—who prioritize higher-fidelity 4K playback and the security of physical ownership over subscription-based access.

This strategy also serves as a promotional bridge for the franchise. By releasing the first two seasons on disc now, Amazon is building momentum and visibility for the series ahead of its next major narrative leap.

Looking Toward Season 3

These releases are timed to precede the arrival of the show's third season, which is scheduled to premiere on November 11, 2026. According to reports, the upcoming season will lean into the series' cinematic roots, beginning with a prologue designed in a "Fellowship-style" manner.

As the series expands its availability, the physical releases ensure that the visual scale of the Second Age is preserved in the highest possible quality for home viewing, while the industry watches to see if the move to discs boosts interest in the long-lead wait for the 2026 premiere.
