Art director and co-founder Yan Qi detailed the studio's stance on Weibo, stating that the team will steer clear of AI-generated content during the critical design and asset stages. According to Yan, this choice is not born out of a simple resistance to technology, but a desire to "stand our ground until the very end." The studio's commitment follows the announcement of Black Myth: Zhong Kui during the Gamescom Opening Night Live in 2025.

A Cinematic Philosophy

In justifying the approach, Yan Qi drew a direct parallel to the filmmaking philosophy of Christopher Nolan. He noted that while digital filmmaking and 3D post-production often feel as though they have reached a dead end, Nolan continues to thrive by utilizing older, practical techniques to innovate. By mirroring this commitment to traditional methods, Game Science aims to achieve a similar level of artistic success and authenticity in its game development.

This skepticism toward AI is a recurring theme at the studio. In 2024, Beth Park, the lead performance director for Black Myth: Wukong, argued that the integration of AI into the creative process removes the "human, chaotic emotion" essential to artistic creation. This internal culture suggests that the studio views the unpredictability of human effort as a feature rather than a bug to be optimized away.
