Microsoft offers store credit for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 pre-orders
Xbox and PC users can claim a small credit incentive for pre-ordering the upcoming shooter.
Microsoft has launched a limited-time promotion providing store credit to users who pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The incentive is designed to drive early adoption of the title on Xbox Series X/S and PC via the Microsoft Store.
Eligible customers who pre-order the game through the Xbox app or Microsoft Store will receive $5 (£4 / €5) in store credit. The offer is retroactive, covering all pre-orders placed between May 28 and September 1. Those who qualify will be notified within 35 days of the game's official launch. The credit must be redeemed by December 15 and spent within 90 days of that redemption.
Platform Expansion and Loyalty
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 23 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Switch 2. Notably, this marks the first time in over a decade that a Call of Duty title will launch on a Nintendo platform.
Alongside the store credit, Microsoft and its partners are offering a 10% loyalty discount on the $100 Vault Edition. This discount is available to players who have played recent entries in the series, including Black Ops 6 and 7, on the same platform. However, this specific loyalty incentive is not available for the Switch 2 version, as previous titles in the franchise were not released on Nintendo hardware.
Strategic Ecosystem Lock-in
This promotion represents a strategic effort by Microsoft to incentivize gamers to choose the Xbox and PC ecosystem over competitors like PlayStation for one of the year's most anticipated releases. By offering store credit, Microsoft not only encourages the initial purchase but also ensures that users return to the Microsoft Store to spend their remaining balance, effectively locking them into its digital marketplace.
What to Watch
As the October 23 launch approaches, industry analysts will be watching to see if these small financial incentives significantly shift pre-order distributions between platforms. While the credit amount is modest, the broader strategy of leveraging the Vault Edition's loyalty discounts suggests a deeper push to reward long-term ecosystem adherence. It remains to be seen how the debut on the Switch 2 will impact overall sales figures across the different hardware providers.
