Sega to Auction Shadow the Hedgehog's 'Dark Rider' Bike for Charity
A custom promotional motorcycle from the 'Year of Shadow' campaign will be sold via Bonhams to support pediatric health.
Sega is auctioning a real-life version of Shadow the Hedgehog's "Dark Rider" motorcycle to raise funds for the Luca Guintoli Foundation. The sale leverages the global profile of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise to provide financial and practical support for children battling cancer or autism.
The auction is scheduled for October 10-11, 2026, as part of The Autumn Stafford Sale conducted via Bonhams. The motorcycle was originally commissioned as a centerpiece for the "2024 Fearless: Year of Shadow" campaign, which promoted the character's debut in the upcoming Sonic 3 movie. The bike made several high-profile appearances during the campaign, including at the Gamescom trade fair.
Engineering and Specifications
The vehicle was manufactured by Bourget's Bike Works in a collaborative effort with Sega, Oil Sweat & Gears, and Atmospherics SFX. The motorcycle features a 1,750cc S&S Super Stock engine paired with Edelbrock cylinder heads and an Ultimate six-speed gearbox. However, potential buyers should note that the bike is currently non-operable, as it utilizes a foam dummy fuel tank for display purposes.
Supporting the Luca Guintoli Foundation
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Luca Guintoli Foundation, an organization established by French World Superbike Champion Sylvain Guintoli. The foundation was created in memory of Guintoli's son, Luca, who passed away from cancer at the age of six. The charity focuses its efforts on providing essential support services for children with autism or cancer specifically within England and Wales.
"We wanted to start the foundation in [Luca's] name, to try and help people and do something positive, and Sega was super helpful," Guintoli said regarding the partnership.
