Pico's upcoming flagship XR headset, the Space Pro, has officially cleared FCC certification, signaling the hardware is nearing commercial readiness for the U.S. market. The move comes despite a significant shift in the product's timeline and the cancellation of a planned reveal event.
According to FCC filings, the device is formally categorized as a "Mixed Reality Computer." While the headset was previously known by the codename "Project Swan," it is now moving toward a targeted launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. This follows the cancellation of a reveal event that had been scheduled for September 2 in Beijing. To maintain momentum during this delay, Pico has expanded its "Global Early Access Program," providing pre-production units to a select group of closed beta testers.
High-Density Visuals and Dual-Chip Power
The Space Pro is designed to compete in the high-end spatial computing tier, featuring hardware specifications that aim to leapfrog current standalone performance. The headset utilizes microOLED displays boasting 4,000 pixels per inch (PPI) and an average of approximately 40 pixels per degree (PPD), providing a level of visual density intended to rival premium competitors.
Under the hood, the device employs a sophisticated dual-chip architecture. It pairs a flagship SoC—which delivers more than twice the CPU and GPU performance of the Qualcomm XR2 Gen 2—with custom XR silicon dedicated to perception and imaging. This specialized silicon is designed to reduce latency to approximately 12ms, improving the responsiveness of mixed-reality overlays. Additionally, a "Wireless Keyboard" (FCC ID 2A5NV-C6110) was certified in July, which industry analysts suggest may serve as a primary accessory for the Space Pro.
Positioning Against Apple and Samsung
As a subsidiary of ByteDance, Pico is positioning the Space Pro as a direct challenger to the Apple Vision Pro and Samsung's upcoming Galaxy XR efforts. By focusing on a "computer" designation rather than a traditional VR headset, Pico is signaling a shift toward productivity and high-fidelity spatial computing. The combination of extreme display density and a dual-processor setup suggests the company is prioritizing raw power to attract professional users and enthusiasts who require more than what current consumer-grade hardware provides.
