Rokid has launched an open AI ecosystem for its smart glasses to transform the device from a closed system into a developer-centric platform. The move, announced at CES 2026, aims to shift the value of wearable hardware toward a diverse library of third-party AI utilities.

As part of this strategy, the company introduced the Rokid AI Glasses Style, a display-free, voice-centric device that weighs 38.5 grams. To support the hardware, Rokid launched an AI Agent Store, which enables third-party developers to build and deploy AI agents that run natively on the glasses. The platform supports multiple AI engines, including ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Qwen, and integrates with global services such as Microsoft AI Translation and Google Maps.

The Pivot to Agentic AI

This launch marks a strategic pivot for Rokid as it moves away from purely visual augmented reality (AR) displays in favor of lightweight, all-day wearable AI assistants. By focusing on "agentic AI," Rokid is prioritizing voice interaction and background utility over screen-based interfaces. This approach allows the hardware to remain unobtrusive while leveraging the processing power of various large language models (LLMs) to handle complex tasks.

A Platform Play for Wearables

This shift represents a broader transition in the smart glasses market, moving the competition from hardware specifications to software ecosystem depth. By opening the platform, Rokid is attempting a "platform play" similar to the early days of the mobile App Store, where the utility of the device is driven by the community of developers rather than the manufacturer alone.

In China, the ecosystem is already demonstrating this utility. According to company data, the AI Agent Store has already integrated a variety of real-world services, including ride-hailing, payments, health tracking, insurance, and car control. This integration suggests a move toward a comprehensive digital assistant that can manage physical-world logistics through a voice interface.

Future Outlook

Industry observers will now watch whether this open-ecosystem model can attract enough high-quality developers to create a sustainable moat against closed-system competitors.
