Guyana joins global all-female space initiative Mission ShakthiSAT

Guyana has joined Mission ShakthiSAT, a global all-female space technology initiative designed to integrate young women into the forefront of space science. The program aims to dismantle traditional barriers in STEM by providing specialized training to girls from diverse backgrounds across the globe.
Nareeta Devi Nandkumar has been selected as the representative for Guyana. She is among a cohort of 12,000 girls, aged 14 to 18, participating from 108 different countries. The initiative is led by Space Kidz India, a Chennai-based organization founded by Dr. Srimathy Kesan.
The Path to Lunar Orbit
The program is structured in rigorous phases to move students from theoretical knowledge to practical application. Phase One required participants to complete 120 hours of online training, which focused on the fundamentals of space technology and the complexities of payload development.
Following this foundational work, the program moves into Phase Two, where one selected girl from each participating country travels to India. During this stage, the representatives engage in hands-on satellite design, fabrication, and testing. The ultimate objective of the mission is to develop and place spacecraft into lunar orbit.
