Poland's Eycore Launches First SAR Satellite to Validate Sovereign Radar Tech

Polish space technology firm Eycore has successfully launched its first Earth observation satellite, Eycore-1, marking a pivotal milestone in the development of domestic radar capabilities. The satellite was deployed on May 3, 2026, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launching from Vandenberg Space Force Base.
The mission is designed to validate Eycore's proprietary synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology under actual orbital conditions. Unlike traditional optical sensors, the SAR system on Eycore-1 provides high-resolution imagery regardless of cloud cover, weather conditions, or time of day. To support this technological leap, Eycore is investing approximately 50 million Polish złoty (roughly $14 million) to expand its production capacity and construct a new headquarters in Gdynia, which will include specialized cleanroom facilities.

This collaborative effort, involving the European Space Agency (ESA) and Creotech Instruments, aims to establish a comprehensive national Earth observation constellation. Additionally, Eycore is collaborating with Kongsberg NanoAvionics to integrate its SAR payloads with satellite buses, ensuring a fully European sovereign imaging solution.
