China's two largest semiconductor foundries have reported massive year-on-year net profit increases for the second quarter. The surge underscores a rapid scaling of the nation's domestic chip ecosystem as tech firms scramble for the computing power necessary to fuel artificial intelligence.
SMIC, the country's largest chipmaker, saw its net profit surge by 261.7% to $479.2 million. The company also reported a 36% year-on-year increase in revenues, which reached $3 billion.
