Chinese memory manufacturer ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has achieved a significant performance milestone, pushing its DDR5 chips to 8800 MT/s on AMD's AM5 platform. This result marks a sharp increase in capability for the company, which previously struggled to consistently exceed the 6,000 to 7,000 MT/s range.

The milestone was demonstrated using a Colorful iGame Shadow II 32GB memory kit. The high-frequency result was achieved using an iGame X870E Vulcan W OC motherboard paired with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor. Further verification indicates that the 8800 MT/s speed was successfully reached across both 2x16GB and 2x24GB memory configurations.

The Push for Domestic DRAM

For years, the global DRAM market has operated as a triopoly, dominated by Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron. CXMT represents China's strategic effort to develop a domestic memory champion to reduce reliance on these foreign entities. Early iterations of CXMT's DDR5 dies were frequently criticized for lower consistency and inferior performance when compared to the industry-standard SK hynix chips.

However, the ecosystem is shifting. Recent BIOS updates from major motherboard vendors, including MSI and Gigabyte, have begun to officially validate CXMT support at speeds up to 8200 MT/s. This suggests that the hardware infrastructure is evolving to accommodate CXMT's silicon as it matures.

This development signals that CXMT is rapidly closing the technical gap with the world's leading memory producers. By proving stability and high-frequency capability on a mainstream consumer platform like AMD's AM5, CXMT positions itself as a viable fourth major supplier in the global market.
