Electromech Infraprojects enters India's semiconductor infrastructure market

The technical services provider will deploy data-center-grade engineering to support domestic chip fabs and packaging plants.

Electromech Infraprojects has officially entered the semiconductor infrastructure sector to support India's push for domestic chip manufacturing. The move aims to provide the specialized technical foundations required for semiconductor fabs, Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT), and Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) facilities.

To support these high-precision environments, Electromech is offering a suite of integrated services including MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) engineering, critical power systems, and precision HVAC. The company's scope also extends to utilities, project management, testing, and commissioning. This expansion leverages a significant operational track record, with the firm having completed over 600 projects across various sectors and supported more than 350 MW of IT load. To facilitate this growth, Electromech utilizes a manufacturing footprint exceeding 200,000 square feet located across Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The Infrastructure Gap

India is currently aggressively scaling its domestic semiconductor ecosystem to reduce import reliance and establish itself as a global hub for chip production. However, the transition from policy to production requires a massive scale-up of industrial infrastructure. Semiconductor facilities demand extreme precision in environmental controls and power quality, as even minor thermal or electrical fluctuations can ruin entire batches of silicon wafers.

Why Mission-Critical Engineering Matters

The entry of specialized MEP contractors like Electromech signals a professionalization of the infrastructure layer within India's semiconductor ambitions. Because fabs and ATMP plants require "mission-critical" reliability, the availability of local firms with data-center-grade engineering capabilities is essential. According to Varun Maniar, Managing Director of Electromech Infraprojects, the opportunity in India is not limited to the facilities themselves, but involves "creating the right infrastructure ecosystem to support these facilities at global standards."

As India continues to attract global semiconductor players, the speed of deployment will depend heavily on the readiness of the local supply chain. The ability to source high-spec HVAC and power systems domestically reduces lead times and operational risks.
