By moving up the value chain from assembly to component fabrication, India aims to eliminate its reliance on external suppliers for the critical chips that power everything from consumer gadgets to industrial machinery.

Semiconductors have become the fundamental building blocks of the modern economy. PM Modi emphasized that chips are now indispensable to medical equipment, transportation systems, and electronic goods, warning that without them, "the entire world could come to a standstill."

By establishing a domestic fabrication ecosystem, India reduces its vulnerability to geopolitical tensions and supply shocks that have historically crippled global tech markets. The primary challenge remains the high capital expenditure and technical precision required for semiconductor fabrication.
