indie Semiconductor Beats Q2 Revenue Guidance as Automotive Recovery Gains Pace

The fabless chipmaker reported a 24% year-over-year revenue increase and narrowing losses, driven by ADAS and robotics expansion.

indie Semiconductor (NASDAQ:INDI) reported second-quarter 2026 results that beat internal guidance and analyst expectations, signaling a recovery in the automotive semiconductor sector. The company's revenue grew 24% year-over-year, reflecting a successful push into advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and a strategic pivot toward "Physical AI."

For the quarter, indie Semiconductor generated $64 million in revenue, exceeding the midpoint of its own guidance by $2 million. While the company reported a non-GAAP net loss of $11.7 million, or $0.05 per share, operational efficiency improved. The non-GAAP operating loss narrowed to $8.9 million, down from $14.5 million in the second quarter of 2025. Revenue was split between its core business, which brought in approximately $36 million, and Wuxi indie Microelectronics, which contributed $28 million. The company maintains a liquidity cushion with $149 million in cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash.

Strategic Market Transition

These results come as indie Semiconductor navigates a complex structural transition. The company is currently working toward the acquisition of the CMOS image sensor group from ams-OSRAM AG and the potential divestiture of its equity interest in Wuxi indie Micro, both of which are expected to close by the end of 2026.

CEO and Co-founder Donald McClymont attributed the growth to a recovering automotive market, citing sustained demand for electric vehicles and improving vehicle production. The company is moving from the prototype phase to production, securing critical design wins with major OEMs including Cadillac and Volvo. McClymont described the Volvo win as a "very decent sized design win" due to the high vehicle penetration rate of the technology.

The Pivot to Physical AI

Beyond automotive, indie is diversifying into robotics and smart infrastructure. The company's iND88X processor family has already secured "physical-AI" wins with humanoid robot manufacturers Unitree and Agibot. This expansion into high-end robotic platforms represents a significant growth lever, with the company estimating that the content opportunity could eventually reach approximately $100 per robot.

This shift toward robotics allows indie to leverage its existing expertise in vision and radar products outside of the traditional automotive pipeline, reducing its reliance on a single industry vertical while scaling its AI capabilities.

Outlook and Next Steps

Looking ahead, indie Semiconductor has issued revenue guidance for the third quarter of 2026 between $67 million and $73 million. Investors will be watching for the finalization of the ams-OSRAM acquisition and the Wuxi divestiture to see how the company's margins stabilize as it streamlines its corporate structure. The primary metric for success in the coming months will be the conversion of its current design wins into high-volume production revenue.
