Telangana Courts German Investment to Build Semiconductor Hub
IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu urges German firms to bring high-precision manufacturing and logistics expertise to the state.
Telangana is aggressively pursuing a strategic partnership with Germany to transform the state into a global semiconductor manufacturing hub. IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu recently met with a delegation from the German Indian Business Alliance (GIBA) to secure critical investments in the high-tech sector.
During the meeting, which featured a GIBA delegation led by Kelsterbach Mayor Manfred Ockel, Minister Sridhar Babu urged German companies to establish a presence in the state. The minister stated that the government is actively working to position Telangana as a semiconductor manufacturing hub, offering a suite of support including expedited approvals, infrastructure development, and targeted incentives. Beyond semiconductors, the state is promoting investment opportunities in aerospace, defense, life sciences, electronics, precision engineering, automobiles, automation, and advanced manufacturing.
Strategic Industrial Pivot
This push for German investment represents a broader effort by Telangana to diversify its industrial base. While the state has long been recognized as a powerhouse for IT services, the current administration is pivoting toward high-tech hardware and precision manufacturing. By targeting Germany—a global leader in engineering and industrial automation—Telangana aims to bridge the gap between software expertise and physical hardware production, creating a more resilient and comprehensive tech ecosystem.
Integrating European Supply Chains
To facilitate this transition, Minister Sridhar Babu proposed the creation of a dedicated Telangana-Germany logistics corridor. This proposed corridor is designed to streamline the movement of goods and provide local manufacturers with more efficient access to European markets. By reducing the friction associated with exports and imports, the state hopes to integrate its industrial output directly into European supply chains, making Telangana a more attractive destination for foreign firms that require seamless global logistics.
The Path to 2026
As part of its long-term investment strategy, the state is preparing for the Telangana Rising Global Summit 2026, which is scheduled for December 7-9. This event is expected to serve as a primary vehicle for finalizing partnerships and attracting the large-scale capital required for semiconductor fabrication plants. While the state continues to court German firms, the success of these initiatives will depend on the government's ability to deliver on its promises of infrastructure and regulatory speed.
