Tencent-Backed Enflame Debuts on STAR Market, Closing 'Four Dragons' IPO Wave

The AI chipmaker raised $911 million as China accelerates its push for domestic semiconductor independence.

Shanghai Enflame Technology Co. has debuted on Shanghai's STAR Market after raising approximately 6.12 billion yuan ($911 million) in its initial public offering. The listing marks a pivotal moment for China's domestic semiconductor industry as the nation seeks to reduce its reliance on foreign hardware.

The offering priced 43 million shares at 142.18 yuan ($21.15) each, representing roughly 10% of the company's enlarged share capital. Enflame is the final member of the so-called "four little dragons"—a group of leading AI chip startups that includes Moore Threads, Biren Technology, and MetaX—to go public. While the company reported a net loss of $178.6 million in 2025, it has provided an aggressive growth forecast, projecting first-half 2026 revenue to reach between $1.58 billion and $1.71 billion.

A Strategic Pivot in Architecture

Enflame distinguishes itself from its domestic rivals through its technical approach. While Moore Threads, Biren, and MetaX have largely pursued general-purpose GPU designs, Enflame utilizes a domain-specific architecture focused specifically on AI inference. This strategic choice reflects a diversification in how Chinese firms are attempting to challenge the dominance of Nvidia.

Despite this specialized focus, Enflame remains a small player in the broader landscape, holding an estimated 1.7% share of China's AI accelerator shipments in 2025. However, the broader industry trend suggests a rapid shift toward domestic alternatives as China seeks to secure its AI infrastructure.

The Tencent Dependency

While the IPO provides a massive capital infusion, Enflame faces significant risks regarding customer concentration. Tencent Holdings, which owns 20% of the company, is Enflame's largest customer and an increasingly dominant source of income. According to data cited by Jon Peddie Research, Tencent's share of Enflame's total revenue climbed from 33% in 2023 to 38% in 2024, before jumping to 84% in 2025.

This extreme dependence on a single entity creates a precarious financial position, as the company's stability is now closely tied to Tencent's internal procurement strategies. This vulnerability is a recurring theme among Chinese AI startups, where the volatility of peer stocks has already signaled a cautious market sentiment regarding customer concentration.

Future Outlook

Investors will now watch whether Enflame can leverage its new capital to diversify its client base beyond Tencent and scale its inference-specific architecture. The completion of the "four little dragons" IPOs signals the end of a historic financing wave, shifting the focus from fundraising to execution. The primary question remains whether these domestic players can achieve the scale necessary to meaningfully erode the market lead of foreign incumbents in the coming years.
