CopilotKit Launches Open-Source Channels SDK for Enterprise AI Agents

The new framework uses the AG-UI protocol to deploy agentic workflows across Slack, Teams, and Discord.

TechNewsReel Newsroom · August 6, 2026

CopilotKit has released the Channels SDK, an open-source framework designed to integrate sophisticated AI agents directly into communication platforms including Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord, and Telegram. The release aims to move AI agents beyond simple chatbots and into the collaborative environments where enterprise teams already operate.

The SDK utilizes the AG-UI protocol to ensure a consistent agent experience across diverse communication surfaces. By leveraging this protocol, developers can maintain their agent's core logic and tools while the SDK renders native, interactive UI elements—such as Slack Block Kit or Teams Adaptive Cards—within the respective channels. The framework provides broad compatibility, supporting integration with several prominent agent frameworks, including LangGraph, CrewAI, Mastra, Pydantic AI, and Google ADK.

The Infrastructure of Agentic UI

As AI agents evolve from basic conversationalists into "agentic" applications capable of executing complex tools and managing state, the industry has faced a significant gap between backend logic and restrictive frontend environments. CopilotKit is positioning itself as the "frontend stack" for these agents, providing the necessary infrastructure to bridge that divide.

Under this architecture, CopilotKit Intelligence handles the platform connections and credentialed delivery. Crucially, the agent's actual logic and tools remain hosted on the developer's own infrastructure, ensuring that the core intelligence of the agent is not locked into the delivery layer. This separation allows for more secure and flexible deployments in corporate settings.

Reducing Enterprise Friction

This release lowers the barrier for deploying AI agents into enterprise workflows. By abstracting platform-specific UI requirements, the Channels SDK enables a "write-once, deploy-anywhere" model. Instead of manually converting generic responses into specific platform formats, developers can deploy a single agentic experience across multiple tools.

One of the most critical features of the SDK is the enablement of "Human-in-the-Loop" (HITL) workflows. This allows agents to pause execution and request human approval via interactive buttons and choices directly within the chat interface, providing a necessary layer of oversight for high-stakes enterprise tasks. This capability accelerates the adoption of AI in corporate environments by meeting users in their existing tools rather than forcing them into new, standalone AI dashboards.

Growth and Scaling

The launch comes as CopilotKit scales its operations following a $27 million Series A funding round. The investment was led by Glilot Capital, NFX, and SignalFire, providing the capital necessary to expand the interface layer between AI agents and the applications they inhabit.

Looking forward, the industry will be watching how the AG-UI protocol gains traction among other framework providers. While the SDK currently supports a wide array of tools, the ultimate success of the platform will depend on its ability to remain the primary bridge between complex agentic backends and the evolving UI standards of the world's most popular collaboration platforms.
