A new native Spotify client called Fastpotify has launched for Linux, macOS, and Windows, aiming to eliminate the performance overhead associated with the official desktop application. By removing the embedded browser engine, the client provides a streamlined experience designed for speed and minimal system impact.
Developed using Rust and the egui framework, Fastpotify avoids the Electron-based architecture used by the official Spotify app. This technical shift allows the application to launch in under one second and significantly reduce memory consumption. Despite its lightweight footprint, the client supports high-quality local playback up to 320 kbps, gapless audio, and full Spotify Connect controls.
